What's New in May
April has been cool—as cool as Florida gets—and the wool blanket is still on the bed for the first time ever. Usually, we use it for one or two weeks in January and that’s it, but not this year. We got to enjoy the feel of a weighted blanket for several months. It appears to be over though as the weather is warming up fast.
The magnolia tree is laden with buds. It’s the first time in 20 years that it has been this bud-dy. The squirrels have discovered them as well, so I had to resort to putting a little cayenne pepper at the base of the tree to keep the rascals from eating the buds. It’s not like they don’t have a million other things to eat in the yard, including bird seed, corn, and some papaya. Always something they shouldn’t have.
Since my mind is on flowers, I started making a large selection of garden flags, so those will show up in the shop at some point soon, and I have been buying lots of milkweed for my resident monarchs. There was a great deal on 3-gallon pots full of blooms and stems, which have made my butterflies a lot like the squirrels on the buds. Ecstatic.
While waiting on me to list some flags, here is a photo of some cherry blossoms in Washington D. C. from my trip this month. We walked 12 miles one day and went up close and personal to the monuments. Lincoln is HUGE!
What’s New
Gifts for Gardeners: Garden flags are headed to the yard.
Gifts for Grandmas: Personalized kitchen wall art has been on my list of things to do this month. I am having a blast making wall art using a riot of colors. I haven’t settled on a specific topic but have experimented in coffee, baking, and hippy Grandmas.
Watercolor Portraits: This has been in the works for a long time, and I finally got the technique I was looking for. Whether dogs, cabins, or kids, I am offering watercolor digital portraits.
Until next month,
Julie
