Favorite Christmas Movies - How the Grinch Stole Christmas

“You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.”  How many of you just sung that line – either in your head or out loud to the dog? The dog’s name is Max, by the way.

This beloved 1957 tale is a product of the imagination of Dr. Seuss – real name Theodor Seuss Geisel – and like all of his creations, was written to teach someone a lesson somewhere using the most outlandish and wildly colorful creatures ever produced.

The Grinch is a pot-bellied furry, mean-spirited character that has a heart the size of a butterbean. Max, on the other hand, is delightfully obedient and spends a lot of time wagging his tail while doing his master’s bidding. "Who's a good boy!"

The poor little Whos in the town of Whoville are too cheerful for Mr. Grinch. We all know the rest of the story, and if you don’t then I suggest you check it out when it comes back around this Christmas season.

Originally, Boris Karloff did the voice of the Grinch, as well as the narration. The song was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft since Karloff couldn’t sing.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! television special debuted in 1966 and has been a holiday special every year since. It was remade in 2000 by Ron Howard featuring Jim Carrey. That version was a box office hit and even had video games designed after the film. In 2018, another animated version was released featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Grinch. A Broadway musical was aired in 2020 with Matthew Morrison as the Grinch.

No matter which version is your favorite (mine is the original; Jim Carrey kinda creeped me out, much like Mike Myers did in Cat in the Hat), if you love Christmas movie magic, then get your popcorn ready and settle in for a wonderful Christmas tradition.

In other Christmas traditions, here are some gift ideas that will make your friend’s and family’s eyes light up like Little Cindy Lou Who when she opened her gifts.
