First off, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah from all of us in Florida to all of you! Hard to believe how darn fast these countdowns go when we first start, but they fly along! Thank you for all of your postings and sharing, and to Catherine and Seamus for sending out reminders and doing the weekly recap on Tuesdays. Those are always awesome! Every little bit helps get sales. I hope everyone was successful this year!
As they say ... now, on with the show!Â
Maybe you didnât see your favorite Christmas movie on the list, but it might be featured next year. I still have a lot of movies that didn't make it to the list.
The last one I chose was broadcast in 1968 and is in the same style as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Stop motion was all the rage back in the 60sâ, which was as close to 3D as we could get. It gave rise to weekly television shows like Davey and Goliath that was based on the Bible story, only Goliath is a dog. It debuted in 1961.
The Little Drummer Boy tells the story of a Jewish boy, Aaron, living on a farm with his farm animals. He has Samson the Donkey, Joshua the Camel and Baba the Lamb. His parents give him a drum for his birthday, and he passes time singing and dancing with his animal friends as he plays the drum.Â
Since there is always a tragedy that is destined to give kids nightmares in every heart-warming story, thieves come, kill the family, steal  the animals, burn the farm, and now he's an orphan who hates everyone.Â
In the end, there is some traveling musicals, camel bartering, a runaway Aaron with his lamb and donkey, a joining up with the Magi who are chasing a star, a runover lamb and a meeting up with a baby in a manger. The lesson to learn is that you can find joy in your heart, but first you must pound a drum loudly and wait on God to work wonders.
This little gem is a narrated by Academy Award winning Greer Garson who was in movies like Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Mrs. Miniver. Teddy Eccles of My Side of the Mountain voiced Aaron and The Vienna Boysâ Choir sings the title song.
There is a sequel to this movie: The Little Drummer Boy II
If this little short, 30-minute movie comes along this year, it might be fun to sit down and watch it. If you are like me, you only saw it once in the 1960s when it came out and never again. I am going to try and catch it this year again.
Speaking of catching things, itâs coming down to the wire, and this is the last week you might have to shop, so browse these great gifts and order soon!
