Mother's Day Midweek Post Week 6 - Famous Mothers - Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor is widely known for her iconic roles in classic Hollywood films such as "Cleopatra" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and her lovely violet eyes. However, what many people may not be aware of is her incredible philanthropic work throughout her life.

Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson in "Giant".

Taylor was a true advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness, and once her friend, Rock Hudson, was diagnosed, she was one of the first public figures to speak openly about the disease during a time when it was heavily stigmatized. In 1985, she helped to found the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) and became its first National Chairperson, dedicating much of her time and resources to the organization. Taylor was known for her tireless efforts to raise funds and awareness for AIDS research, and her work with amfAR helped to significantly advance the cause.

In addition to her work with amfAR, Taylor also established the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1991. The foundation provides funding for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and care services, and has awarded over $17 million in grants to organizations around the world. Taylor's commitment to the cause was so strong that even after her death in 2011, her estate continued to support the foundation's work.

Taylor was also passionate about supporting the arts and education. In 1993, she established The Elizabeth Taylor Endowment Fund at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. The endowment provides scholarships and financial support to students pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. Taylor's love for the arts was evident throughout her life, and her support of the next generation of artists and filmmakers continues to make a lasting impact.

In addition to these causes, Taylor was also a strong advocate for humanitarian efforts. She was a vocal supporter of the State of Israel and worked to raise awareness of the country's struggles. Taylor was also a supporter of the fight against hunger and poverty, and worked with organizations such as the World Food Programme to provide aid to those in need.

Elizabeth Taylor's philanthropic work was a true reflection of her compassionate and generous spirit. Her dedication to causes such as AIDS research, education, and humanitarian efforts has left a lasting impact on the world, and her legacy continues to inspire others to make a difference in their communities.

She was the mother of four children.
